E 4 ME FAQs
I never received my welcome letter for the E 4 ME Class that I signed
up for. What happened?
There may be a problem with the way your email filtered out the welcome letter.
Some e-mail providers filter messages based on content, subject
line, or the sender's address and may put your e-mail into a bulk or junk mail
folder. Please make sure @oln.org is on your "approved sender" list
or "whitelist" and/or in your "address book."
In the meantime, be sure to check your junk mail folder
to see if the welcome letter is there. If you still do not see it, contact:
e4meohio@oln.org for further help.
Follow
this link for more information on e-mail filters.
I signed up for E 4 ME several months ago, but circumstances got in the
way and I could not complete the course. I want to re-register for another
course and I am sure that I’ll be able to finish it now. Why won’t
the system let me re-register?
In order to re-register for a new class, contact Gail Peters at: gpeters@oln.org
or send an email to e4meohio@oln.org for
help. OLN will have to re-register you for a new class. When you email
your request, be sure to indicate which month that you want to take the new class.
You will be able to choose from the next three months that are approaching, and
will receive confirmation that you are registered for the new class. A welcome
letter with your password and username will be sent to you via email the day before
your class begins.
I signed up for my E 4 ME Class today and received confirmation of my
registration. What do I do next?
First of all, congratulations on signing up for E 4 ME! Now that you are
registered, you should go to the following website in order to make sure that
your computer is set up properly and ready for you to begin your course at: http://www.e4meohio.org
Take a look at the following information tabs on the left side of the screen:
- Introduction to E 4 ME
- Computer Skills and Requirements
- Benefits of E 4 ME
Next, keep in mind that you will receive your welcome letter with your password
information the day before your class begins . Classes usually
begin the first Monday of each month. Your class start date can be found
on your registration confirmation email you received the day you registered for
E 4 ME.
The day before your class begins, feel free to login to your class and take
a preview look around your virtual classroom. Make sure once again that
your computer is set up properly, and if you have any problems getting into E
4 ME, contact e4meohio@oln.org. OLN
will help you access your E 4 ME course. Once you are inside E 4 ME, your
instructor will help you.
Are there any other important “first steps” that I should
take at this time?
One of the first things to do is to make sure your computer is updated.
When you first enter the WebCT site to log on, go to where it says "Check
Browser." This will check to make sure the components you need are
on your computer (JavaScript and Adobe Acrobat). It will also check to make
sure you are using the most updated version of your internet browser (i.e. Internet
Explorer Version 6.0). Go to http://www.webct.com/tuneup
-- for a detailed explanation on how to do a browser check.
Also, if you are using AOL, this can sometimes cause a problem because AOL’s
security and other features do not always allow other programs to run correctly.
Launch AOL, minimize the AOL browser, and then launch Netscape, Internet Explorer,
Mozilla, or Firefox (some browser other than AOL).
I’ve done the “browser check” but it says that my Java
isn’t validated. What does this mean?
Java 1.6 is not officially supported yet. Don’t worry! If you have
the most current version, the E 4 ME course should still function just fine.
I don’t understand how to start with this course. Where do I have
to go first, and what do I do first?
On the home page when you first log in, you will see several areas: Course schedule,
Course Content, Course Orientation, and Library.
Click on the area entitled, "Course Content." Go through this information
page by page. It contains not only the information that you need to know and understand
to complete the course, but it also has your assignments and quizzes.
I can’t view the pdf files.
Make sure you turn off any pop-up blockers on your computer.
- An easy (but temporary) way to do this is by holding down the control key
("Ctrl") while clicking on links. In addition, disable any firewalls
installed on your computer.
- Or a long term solution - When you click on the next page button to open
the article, a dialog box will appear that is titled "Information Bar."
Please read what is posted in the box and click on "ok."
Next, look above the E 4 ME course to find the Information Bar, which is a thin,
cream-colored line. It will have text in it that says: "To help protect your
security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer.
Go ahead and click on the information bar to see the options, and choose "download
file." When you choose download file, your computer will return to the main
page of the course. You will need to go back into the course content and re-open
the page with the article.
This time the article will open automatically.
Can I save (“bookmark”) where I left off in the course?
Yes – when you are in your course content there are several small icons
in the right top corner. Click the one that is farthest left that looks like it
has a green bookmark. This should save your spot in the course so that you can
return to it easily.
I can’t view the videos in the course.
The problem you're experiencing has to do with your Java configuration.
Try using the browser check on your home computer to make sure that you have the
correct version of Java. If the browser check shows that your Java looks good
but you still can't view the movies - try uninstalling your Java and then reinstalling
it. Sometimes the program might experience some problems downloading but not all
aspects of the program are affected, only some -- such as viewing the video.
Some of the links in the course content don’t work.
Sorry about that, we try to keep the course links as updated as possible but sometimes
the Websites get changed around, and we don’t realize it. Please email your
instructor within the course, and he or she will notify OLN to fix the links and
supply you with the new and correct ones to use.
I’m having problems that are not indicated on this list of FAQs.
What do I do now?
If you are experiencing problems and have not been able to login to your E 4 ME
Course yet, send an external email (outside the course) to e4meohio@oln.org
for help.
For any other questions or problems you have inside E 4 ME, contact
your E 4 ME instructor using the email tool inside the course.
